The Prodigal boys have returned and with them they have brought their high power interpretation of the traditional Irish music. Featuring Lamments, Jigs, Reels and Ballads. Gregory Grene leads The Prodigals on vocals and accordion (known as the button box in the auld country) along with Andrew Harkin, bass, Ray Kelly, vocals and guitar and Brian Tracy, drums, percussion and backing vocals. The opening song for the 12 song CD is a reworking of the cowboy song of the 50's Ghost Riders In The Sky, too Spancil Hill, a story of the Irish lad so far from home that he can only return through his dreams. With 2 instrumentals, The Open Reel and Boru's March, Go On, has the contemporary sound behind the rhythmic boran beat. Are they rock, maybe so but not in the sense of U2, Cranberries and the such. The Prodigals pays homage to their native culture as only their name can imply. SlipLADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO
