Flowers De Moon

Depression Smiles Chaos Winks

2017-02-20

Flowers De Moon's EP, Depression Smiles Chaos Winks, is unique in that it melds multiple genres. The oxymoronic title in itself gives a clue as to the goal of the artists, Olivia Price and Doug Fraley, in creating this album. The overall tones of the songs are a bit dark but they seem to convey a sense of comfort in it themselves. The mashup of genres might seem like a chaotic idea but done with a purposeful intent, as the title implies. There are jazz, pop, hip hop, and psychedelic elements in each song and I feel it was cleverly done in many of the songs. There is also a cover of Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box done in a very different way than any cover I've heard and I enjoyed it for the most part. Tracks 1 and 2 were my favorites for their catchy and emotional melodies.
