I was aware of The Volebeats existence in years past, but never took much notice of them. With the release of the new, self-titled album, there's really no reason to take notice of them today. These Detroit boys make British-invasion-inspired pop-rock with nice vocal harmonies and occasional pedal-steel licks thrown in. This is all well and good and it sounds nice for a song or two. The thing is, it gets rather tedious listening to this from end to end. There is nothing here that stands out or is the least bit challenging. This is radio-friendly background music.
