First of all, 'Nortec' is a combination of the words 'norteño' and 'techno'. Norteño being music that originates from North Mexico, near the border with the US, and music that commonly uses the accordion and bajosexto. They also sometimes sample traditional Mexican music. Pepe Mogt is the mastermind behind the sound on this album, and credited with being the inventor of the genre. He wrote most of the songs on this album. Mogt combined with some other like minded musicians form the Nortec Collection and make some very interesting and fun music. Nortec Collective's second album, Tijuana Session, Volume 3 was nominated for two Latin Grammys in 2006 and received much critical acclaim. On this album, you will hear both English and Spanish, but it's sparse, as in the techno music tradition with repetition and random phrases. Track #1 The Clap is a playful track full of the accordion, leaning toward the Norteño. Track #5 Shake It Up has electronic vocals along with some fun accordion and brass sounds. It leans more toward the techno. There are a lot of fun tracks on here, so have fun. ~Renae O.
