Bridge to Havana

2004-05-24

Bridge To Havana is a CD and DVD resulting from an unprecedented 1999 cultural exchange that allowed more than 70 American, European and Cuban musicians and songwriters to collaborate in Havana.

Musicians as diverse as Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Frampton, Jimmy Buffett, Lisa Loeb, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Gladys Knight, Montell Jordan, Dave Koz and Burt Bacharach joined with some of Cuba's finest for a week of songwriting and recording.

The artists were reportedly grouped together by pulling names out of a hat, and the songs were recorded in studios set up at Havana's historic Hotel Nacional. A massive, once-in-a-lifetime concert event followed at Karl Marx Theatre in Havana, which was filmed and will come out on DVD. Bridge To Havana hits stores June 29.
