Brooklyn-based Antibalas … “bulletproof” in Spanish … ricochets from horn-heavy numbers like “Beaten Metal,” to the melancholy, almost funereal (B-3-laden) vibe of the final track, “AGE.” Their sparse yet clever, politically-charged lyrics amp up lengthier tracks like 2 and 3, “Filibuster X” and “Sanctuary,” 12 and 13 minutes, respectively, to prove these afrobeat aficionados pack heat with protest.
