Miguel “Anga” Diaz is a Cuban percussionist known for his work with Irakere, as well as backing stuff for the Afro Cuban Allstars and Buena Vista Social Club. This is a fusion of styles, sometimes a bit random, sometimes leaning more traditional sometimes avant-garde. His signature setup is 5 differently tuned congas, sometimes adding one or two additional drums. Lots of guest artists from the who’s who of Cuba, including his past bands. This album is intriguing—some of it is just too cool. What a nice surprise! We need this. -P
