EL SPORTIVO AND THE BLOOZ

Nights and Weekends

2013-03-20

Producer Lewis Pesacov is well known for creating the sounds of summer: his work with bands like Best Coast and Local Natives can attest to that. His latest project is the curiously named band El Sportivo and the Blooz, an extension of his trademark sound of the dreamy and ethereal. Much of the band's persona itself is like, sweetly hazy, with a tinge of intangible nostalgia. Their first album, Nights and Weekends, is just that, reflections of those quiet times when we wished we have more wisdom. With washed out vocals and chilled guitars, the album's reverb sound feels like a sun's glare; intangible, but warming and comforting nonetheless. The band bears lyrical intimacy as well; phrases like "I wish that I could stumble off to bed/ but I'll be up all night" are intimately relatable. With the intricate production touches, the band illustrates that even with feelings of longing, with the right music, like the album, that's just alright. - Jacqueline Ristola
