Legendary New Orleans jazz pianist, Allen Toussaint, puts muggy New Orleans evenings to music with his new release, “The Bright Mississippi.” Despite being his first solo jazz release in more than ten years, the album is confident and perfectly performed. Mr. Toussaint’s talent for understated arrangements comes out here. The accompanying performances, particularly that of Don Byron on clarinet, are equally impressive. “The Bright Mississippi” is available from Nonesuch Records in April, 2009.Soweto Kinch
