In the Clear is Ivy’s fifth full-length release but the Manhattan trio is best known for licensing its music to film and TV. However, Ivy’s forged a lush sound with catchy songs here that can stand on its on merits. In the Clear has that infectious Euro-disco-pop sound fronted by French breathy songstress Dominique Durand, her husband guitarist Andy Chase, and bassist Adam Schlesinger. They’ve been at this for a decade, but have made more of a mark perhaps separately. Chase produces for others including French pop group Tahiti 80, and is in various side projects such as Paco. Schlesinger is a songwriter-producer, writing for stage and a co-founder of the indie band Fountains of Wayne.
In the Clear does the trick if you’re looking for songs about longing and alienation that could work in your car or at an urban lounge over martinis.
