THE GORIES

The Shaw Tapes: Live in Detroit 5/27/88

2013-11-25

The Gories began in 1986 and by 1992 the band was finished.  In between, they toured the world, playing the primal, blues-based garage rock that we might recognize today as "the Detroit sound" (popularized by the White Stripes, among others).  The Shaw Tapes was recorded at a house party by one, Jim Shaw, an early supporter of the underground music scene in Detroit.  The recording here is rough, and indeed, it wouldn't work any other way.  It captures the raucous punk energy of the band in its heyday.     Rebecca Ruth
