Jeb Loy’s fourth disc continues the mix of soul, country and reggae that he’s uniquely developed. At times he’s taking something right out of the Al Green lexicon; other times he’s following in the footsteps of Hank Williams. His songs have been described as “the lonesome children of Merle, Marley and Marx.” The legendary Memphis singer/songwriter Dan Penn assists on “Ever Feel Like Leaving” (#10) and Shalia Prospere does a nice duet with Jeb Loy on “Really Together” (#2). Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised at his schizophrenic music: He was born in Wyoming; raised in Missouri; moved to Austin, then New York, then London; now lives and works on a farm in Wales; and recorded this record in Nashville.TEDDY BEARS
