Bill Charlap Trio

Somewhere: The Music of Leonard Bernstein

2004-05-06

Bill Charlap is a relatively young jazz pianist who got his big break in 1994 when Bill Mays recommended him as Mays' replacement in the Gerry Mulligan Quartet. He's the son of Broadway composer Moose Charlap and singer Sandy Stewart. He's worked with Benny Carter, Clark Terry and Frank Wess as well as accompanist with singers Tony Bennett and Sheila Jordan.

Nice interpretations of Leonard Bernstein classics from On the Town, Candide, Fancy Free and, most notably, West Side Story. Longtime collaborators/brother Kenny & Peter Washington join him on this one.
