The Milk-Eyed Mender is popping up on many critics’ ‘Best of 2004'. Newsom, a harpsichordist-singer-songwriter, is part of the new “freak folk” movement, which also includes everybody’s new darling Devendra Banhart.

Newsom previously released EPs called Walnut Whales (2002)and Yarn and Glue (2003), about the time she first garnered exposure by opening for Cat Power and Will Oldham. This is her first full-length album.

Newsom’s vocals are child-like, kind of dangerous, very bold, almost daring you to like her music. And you will, even if it takes several listens.
