Carnabailito

2003-10-14

Carnabailito is the solo debut from Gaby Kerpel, a composer and musician for the theatrical group, De La Guarda. The disc is produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, an active participant in the Latin music scene since the 60's. The sound is based on traditional Argentinean folk music with Spanish lyrics that speak mostly of unrequited love, presented upon stuttering rhythms that have an African feel. Lots of electronica here as well with the use of looping and sampling. An array of musical instruments are to be heard, like an Argentinean charango, the kalimba, the Brazilian carquinho, an erhu (a chinese violin) as well as flute and accordian. The creative use of sound is the highlight of this disc, making it a fun listen!
