Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited

Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited

2006-08-07

Serge Gainsbourg, who is known in France as a jack-of-all-trades-even-master-of-some, has his work covered by a plethora of well-known artists who do a fantastic job of recreating Gainsbourg’s music. Franz Ferdinand and Jane Birkin do an unbelievable mastery of “A Song for Sorry Angel” as the first track. Cat Power and Karen Elson continue with the second song, “I Love You (Me Either)” as a beautiful version of their own. Track 5, “Requiem For A Jerk” which is covered by Faultline, Brian Molko and Francoise Hardy is another wonderful track that keeps the pulse pumping. With many huge names such as Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), The Kills, and James Iha (The Smashing Pumpkins), each song is Gainsbourg’s all alone, but with an added flavor of each musician doing the cover. This makes for an awesome album for any electronica, modern rock, or indie rock fan. – Lane Zoerhof *Track 8 Lola R. Forever contains “damn”
