RUSSELL HOWARD

City Heart

2012-03-09

From the first song, Russell Howard reminds one of John Mayer--only with better enunciation. “Home Sweet Home” demonstrates Russell’s generous vocal range. Lawson White lays on the percussion on the single “Safe to Say” and this song carries the most passion in Russell’s voice than any other. “Won’t Get to Sleep” is pure pop—no angst-filled lyrics here—but the song is one of the best. City Heart is a wistful little album, and, in the words of Russell, is a bridge between his singer-songwriter beginnings and the indie/folk/alternative musician he hopes to become. – Pam VandeKerkhoff
