THE KLEZMATICS

Wonder Wheel

2006-07-24

There has certainly been a revival of American Roots music & this CD represents one of the most unusual parings one could imagine. Combining the still timely lyrics of the Great Woody Guthrie with the most popular Klezmer Band of the 21’st Century the Klezmatics. The CD starts with 3 Woody Classics starting with “Come When I Call You”. With the current political climate the lyrics of this track feel like they could have been written yesterday. “Mermaid Avenue” represents one of the finest interpations I Have ever heard. The Klezmatics are joined on several tracks with the beautiful vocals of Celtic musician Susan McKewon check out “Gonna Get Through This World” as a fine example. Some of the later tracks on this Disc with the more traditional Klezmer sounds were fun, but eventually lost my interest. That being said this CD offers something for everybody. - Gregg Saur
