The Dears

A modern rock masterpiece from Canada? You better believe it! Montreal based autuer Murray A. Lightburn has created an album that packs a sonic punch and orchestral beauty that ranks with 21st century visionaries like Radiohead and Spiritualized while recalling the 80's power angst-pop of The Smiths, The Cure, and early U2.

There is not a weak song to be found but there are a few standouts, noteably "Expect the Worst/'Cos She's a Tourist" and "Where Are You, Defenders of the Universe." I am also particularly fond of the duets with backup singer Natalia Yanchak on "Never Destroy Us" and "The Death of all the Romance." This is the bands first major release and it should firmly establish them as a group to follow down the road. A flat out terrific album! - Calin
