Soweto Gospel Choir

Voices from Heaven

2005-01-19

The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed in 2002 as a means of raising awareness of Africa’s AIDS epidemic and funds for orphans who are not receiving government aid. They've recently been targeting relief efforts for the tsunami disaster.

They mix traditional African rhythms with Western gospel influences. In anticipation of their Shanachie Records debut, the 32 member choir opens an ambitious 35 city US tour this month which includes February Michigan dates in Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo and East Lansing.
