I don't know why I'm having such a hard time getting started on this review of Behold A Pale Horse by singer/guitarist/rocker Anna Rose. It might be because my car stereo was particularly unkind to her (things sounded much better at home.) It might be because I keep thinking there's a hint of Country in her voice (not that there's anything wrong with that.) It might be because the album is diverse and inconsistent, and I can't put an easy label on what she does or how well she does it.
Biographical details: Age 27 at the time of release. Current home, New York, but spent plenty of years in Los Angeles. Daughter of Alan Menken, Oscar-winning composer of Disney musicals. She had a hand in writing every song on the album, so add songwriter to her list of talents.
I've decided I like her straight rock, but I'm not a fan when she attempts pop ballads and romance. Recommended: 04- Electric Child. 07 - Los Angeles. 08-Because You're Mine.
