THE GREAT UNKNOWNS

Homefront

2012-05-01

Becky Warren is the creative songstress behind The Great Unknowns (not to be confused with the alt band The Great Unknown). Homefront is their second album (first release was in 2004). Bandmates include Altay Guvench on bass, Andy Eggers on drums and Avril Smith on guitar and mandolin. Becky’s plucky voice laments about loves left behind with a military tinge. Lexington, Wrong (more rock than country), and Homefront are heartfelt and the strongest tracks. By the Time You Get to Texas is slow paced and the pedal steel guitar is short and sweet. In Love Song, Warren sings “we knew we’d never make the charts” but let’s hope that’s not a self-fulfilling prophecy as this is a formative effort. These unknowns need more exposure. - Pam VandeKerkhoff
