“Universo Ao Meu Redor” “Infinito Particular” Monte has been around for years, from her discovery by David Byrne in the early nineties to several releases and collaborations since. Now, after four silent years she’s back with a splash, and the simultaneous release of her seventh and eighth albums on Blue Note Records. Well, sometimes doing something crazy is what it takes to get on the radar—but, does the music stack up? “Infinito Particular” keeps it nice and slow, with simple Instrumentation, for a samba type of feel. “Universo Ao Meu Redor,” as evidenced by the cover, is a bit poppier, but stays simple and well-crafted. All in all, these seem like a great effort. -PeteJOHANNES WELCH, DAVID HESS AND PAUL HINGER
