“Black Rebel Motorcycle Clubs’” new release plays heavy yet safe. At all points this is a catchy album with little of the conjured diabolism that makes for memorable rock songs. Among the catchy is a polished, Beta Band reminiscent, distortion chant down, ‘666 Conducer’ and a seductive garage rock noise kicker, ‘Berlin.’ Looking for the pre-major label incantation? It’s could be there on, ‘Not What You Wanted,’ ‘Need Some Air,’ and the chimerical finale, ‘Am I Only.’
