THE DETROIT COBRAS

TIED AND TRUE

2007-05-14

Regional Equal parts rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson, punk rocker Patti Smith and soul diva Dusty Springfield, singer Rachel Nagy leads this motor city combo through 13 hard hitting nuggets of sonic delight distilled into a mere 31 minutes. There’s everything here from a rocking version of James Brown’s If You Don’t Think to a doo-wop style track that would fit nicely on the American Graffiti soundtrack, Try Love. While stepping back slightly from the punk sensibilities that characterized the band’s earlier work in favor of a deeper late 60’s soul groove with big hooks the band still maintains a hip edge that is hard to beat. Stand out tracks include English invasion style rocker Puppet on a String, the girl group groover, It’s My Delight and the slyly sexy, Leave My Kitten Alone. - Smitty
