Jem

Finally Woken

2004-04-06

Jem Griffith was born and raised in Wales, went to London, then on to the U.S. to explore her own music after regularly mixing it up as a DJ for dance clubs. Here in the States, she hooked up with hip-hop producer Ge-Ology and programmer Yoad Nevo to develop the sound you hear on Finally Woken.

The lore of this disc's radio development is now inextricably linked to KCRW programmer Nic Harcourt's initial amazement with Jem's EP. His airplay led to a record deal with ATO Records and this, her first full length album.

With a voice that's in the Beth Orton/Dido vein, the album rates high with me on the "cool" factor.
Can't get enough, man!
