Niyaz has come very far, very fast. The trio’s 2005 debut made them standout amongst an over-crowded world music field. On Nine Heavens, Niyaz sets out to prove that producing well-arranged songs is the key to a solid album. This record is split into two, one being called “acoustic” although its hardly the simple voice and guitar approach. Its as sonically rich as the first disc. Drawing on some 300-year old Persian folk songs, this album not only transcends cultural and stylistic boundaries, but centuries as well. Reviewed By LaRaeHUUN HUUR TU AND CARMEN RIZZO
