Jackie Brenston And His Delta Cats

Rocket 88
The Rock 'N' Roll Explosion (VA)
a note about this track

Considered by many to be the first Rock and Roll record. Released in May of 1951, this track was recorded by Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm, for Sun Records. Jackie Brenston was the group's saxophone player. Jackie also handled vocals on this track. Due to a clerical error(?!), when Sun sold the hit to Chess Records, credit was given to Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats. (There is also debate as to who penned this tribute to the famous new car of 1951: Ike or Jackie, or both.)

a note about this track

The top of the hours are for Ike Turner (1931-2007)............ With this song, recorded in the spring of 1954, Ike unleashed his Strat on some of that era's Blues hits. The track languished in the vaults until 1963.
