The Kent District Library is pleased to announce its fourteenth annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest, which drew over 1,000 entries last year.  

Michigan writers of all ages are invited to enter, with separate categories for youth, teens, and adults. 

Stories can be submitted at writemichigan.org through Saturday, November 15. 

There is a 3,000-word maximum length, and the contest is open to current Michigan residents only.

Winning entries will be published, and the top writers will receive cash prizes.

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is proud to announce its participation in the annual ArtPrize competition, welcoming more than 50
talented artists from around the globe. 

As one of the central venues for this prestigious event, the museum will host a diverse array of art installations, and to accommodate additional visitors during ArtPrize, the Gerald R. Ford Museum will offer extended hours and free admission.

The Museum hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays, throughout the duration of the ArtPrize competition...running September 19 - October 4.

The Franciscan Life Process Center will host its 11th annual Franciscan Rhythms 5K Trail Run & Walk benefiting its music therapy program and land restoration efforts Saturday, Oct. 4. 

The all-ages and all-fitness-levels 5K will allow participants to "Run with Nuns" and experience restorative projects on a scenic path through its rural Lowell campus. 

Live music stations will be spread out along the trail and participants will receive freshly baked cinnamon rolls made by the sisters, plus coffee, at the finish line.

This ArtPrize, the Grand Rapids Art Museum is thrilled to host outdoor installations by two Michigan-based artists, Elijah Haswell and Luis Fernandez. 

To celebrate, guests can take advantage of $5 admission to the GR Art Museum now through October 4.

Guests can explore the entries along the GRAM exterior before heading inside to enjoy the Art Museum's current exhibitions with reduced admission.

Also on view are the exhibitions: David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed, and  Pablo Picasso: Relentless Innovation.

They work to create positive change by breaking down barriers, creating awareness, providing inclusive services, and bridging relationships. 

By offering social and support groups, volunteer opportunities, a basic and essential needs closet, a Therapy Assistance Program, and other services, Grand Rapids Pride Center strives to be a safe, welcoming, and affirming space for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in the greater-Grand Rapids area.
