Scrapper's Powerful Phrasing On His Acoustic Guitar Paved The Way For Later Electric Blues Guitarists To Express Themselves. Making Good Money As A Bootlegger, Blackwell Never Considered Being A Full-Time Musician Until He Met Pianist Leroy Carr During The Late 1920's; This Partnership Continued Until Carr's Death In 1935, Not Long After The Recording Sessions That Produced "Blues Before Sunrise". Distraught Over The Passing Of His Friend, Blackwell Gave Up Performing For Twenty Years. Rediscovered In 1959 After Cutting An Acclaimed Album For The Bluesville Label, With Touring Plans To Bring Him Out Of Obscurity, Francis Hillman "Scrapper' Blackwell Was Shot Dead During A Mugging In A Back-Alley In 1962.
