A massive hit for Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre back in 1996. Performed here by classically trained violinist Quetzal Guerrero who makes music under the name QVLN.

Lydia Loveless

Another Prince cover, this from Lydia Loveless. There is an interesting documentary from 2016 called "Who Is Lydia Loveless?", which follows the band on the road, and looks into the struggles a moderately successful band can have in the age of Spotify and declining sales.

The Well Pennies

I could probably do a whole show of just Beatles covers, but I limited it today to just this one: a really sweet version of "All My Loving" done here by husband-and-wife folk duo The Well Pennies.

Judith Owen is a jazz singer raised in London. She is married to Harry Shearer of The Simpsons and Spinal Tap fame. This is her album full of jazzy covers. "Play That Funky Music" was a #1 smash in 1976 for Wild Cherry.

The Bird and The Bee have a couple of albums out in their "Interpreting the Masters" series. This is from Vol. 2: A Tribute To Van Halen, with their classic "Jump".

The Be Good Tanyas

"When Doves Cry" was the lead single from Prince's Purple Rain album, and of course was prominently featured in the movie of the same name. It's somewhat unusual for an 80's dance song in that it doesn't have a bass line. It's the hidden track #13 on this CD from The Be Good Tanyas.

"Come And Get Your Love" was a 1974 hit for Native American rock band Redbone. Their only hit in this country as a matter of fact, though they found more success with subsequent releases overseas. Performed here by Ozomatli.

Luca Stricagnoli

Born and raised in Italy, acoustic guitarist Luca Stricagnoli caught my attention on social media a while back, where he played an insane version of Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady" with a triple-necked beast of a guitar that he manages to get a melody, bassline, percussion and scratching all in one go. Juliana Hatfield

Juliana Hatfield is a former bassist of The Lemonheads during that band's peak years. As of late she has released a series of tribute albums focusing on covering songs from a particular artist. She released an album of Olivia Newton-John song, her latest effort is covers of one of my most beloved bands, ELO. This track I'm going to play for you here is from "Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police", and is her version of "Can't Stand Losing You", originally release don The Police's 1978 debut Outlandos d'Amore.

A.J. Croce

"Nothing From Nothing" was a big AM radio hit for keyboardist Billy Preston back in1974.

Joshua Ray Walker

After Q Lazzarus played a demo tape for Jonathan Demme while driving him in her taxi, which included a demo of "Goodbye Horses", he featured the song in his crime comedy film Married to the Mob (1988). It then became a cult hit after he used it effectively in the basement scene of his film The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

This was written by William DeVaughn but often misattributed to Curtis Mayfield. The song is noted for its repeated line: "Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean" ..... By the way, the album name is "The Lagniappe Sessions". Lagniappe is Cajun-French, and means “a little extra.”

Sophie Allison aka Soccer Mommy released the EP Karaoke Night in 2023, singing covers she’s performed live as Soccer Mommy but never recorded until now. This is a cover of Pavement's "Here" originally released by the band on 1992's Slanted & Enchanted.
