Blues Plate Special: Frank Stokes, 1928 - Grew Up Playing The Blues Before WWI; His Tremendous voice And Skillful Guitar Work Helped To Popularize The Blues As He Toured The South And Minstrel Shows. Born In 1888; As Young Men, Frank And His Friend Dan Sane Played The Streets Of Memphis For Tips. His Reputation As A Songster, Dancer And Comedian Led To Teaming Up With With Garfield Akers In The Doc Watts Medicine Show. Stokes and Sane Formed The Beale Street Sheiks, Making Their Recording Debut In 1927. The Depression Took Hold And Record Sales Fell Off A Cliff. Little Is Known Of Frank's Career In The 1940's. Frank Stokes Passed On In 1955.
