Bud Powell

Comin' Up
The Scene Changes 1959 via Blue Note
a note about this track

Art Taylor, Drums...Paul Chambers, Bass...Bud Powell, Piano - - - - The Legend Of The Tortured, Tragic Jazz Genius Exists Because Of People Like Charlie Parker And Bud Powell. Both Are Bebop Legends, Among The Greatest Of The Greats, Founding Fathers Of The Genre. Both Were Brought Down By Drugs And Mental Illness - Parker at 34, Powell at 41. Powell Took The Sheer Speed Of Art Tatum And Added Quirks And Flourishes, Writing Many Of His Own Tunes - Creating Most Of His Best Music Early On, Much Of It For Blue Note In The 1950's. This Morning 820 Jazz Presents "Comin' Up," A Latin-ish Rhythm Excursion From The 1959 Album 'The Scene Changes', Perhaps One Of The Final Few Records Showing Powell's Flashes Of Brilliant Exuberance.
