Composer: John Smith Hurt, 1930 - When The Folk/Blues Revival Of The Early 60's Brought The Old Blues Players Out Of Obscurity And Onto The World Stage, Nobody's Obscurity Was Deeper Than Mississippi John Hurt's. Hurt Looked At Music As a Hobby, Recorded A Couple Of Sides In The Late 1920's With No Success, And With The Great Depression Looming, Stayed Close To Home To Sharecrop The Land. Thirty Five Years Would Pass Before Musicologist Tom Hoskins "Rediscovered," John In Avalon, MS; The 70 Year Old's Talents Perfectly Intact. A Series Of Concert And Recording Sessions Were Arranged. John Cut "Avalon Blues," In 1963, His First Time Back In A Studio Since 1928 Displaying A Style That Had Not Changed Much Since The 20's. John Smith Hurt Passed On Three Years Later At The Age O 74. His Collected Works Is Preserved In The Library Of Congress.
